It has been a historic run for Randeep Hooda’s directorial debut “Swatantraya Veer Savarkar”, which recently completed its 50 days on ticket counters. The movie, which led to polarizing opinions, has held its ground in a couple of cities even after so many days of its release, especially Mumbai and Pune. This is a remarkable feat for a movie that was termed propaganda by many so-called independent movie reviewers and critics. Despite not getting support from Bollywood, the film did exceedingly well given its budget of 20 crore. So far, the biopic has fetched more than 33+ crore as per the official figures Worldwide which makes it a hit.

Veer Savarkar: Rock-solid amid big-budget movies

If we talk about the recent Bollywood releases, most of them tanked at the box office and proved to be a headache for the producers and industry.  Some of them notably include Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan, Yodha, Crakk, Maidaan, etc. The failure of Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan and Maidaan has given the industry sleepless nights, made on a budget of 350 crore and 250 crore, respectively. Both the movies could not even recover their budget despite releasing on the Eid holidays. Also, both the movies had Bollywood superstars in them – Akshay Kumar in BMCM and Ajay Devgan in Maidaan. Despite such big names, the movies failed miserably.

Comparison with Christian Bale

This comparison becomes necessary to give our readers the magnitude of success that the Veer Savarkar movie holds. Although Randeep Hooda is a fabulous actor, he has never gained that stardom despite being in the industry for almost two decades now. Despite being an outsider, he has always proved his acting prowess and his dedication to bringing alive the character, be it in the form of Sarbjit or Veer Savarkar. Many cinephiles felt cheated when Hooda couldn’t win any award for his role in Sarbjit. Such is the love he has amassed for his brilliant acting. For his insane transformation for the role of Veer Savarkar, he has been compared with Christian Bale – a brilliant Hollywood method actor.

Veer Savarkar: Director and Co-Producer of the Movie

It speaks volumes about the brilliance of Randeep Hooda and the applause he deserves for the movie Veer Savarkar. What’s fascinating is that Hooda joined the project to play the titular role only. However, when he started reading about Savarkar, he became so engrossed in the project that he decided to produce and direct the movie. As the director had some differences with the producer he left the project and a few months later Hooda joined in as the director, co-producer, and the leading actor of the movie.

Veer Savarkar: Battling the hatemongers

Hooda wanted to know more and more about Savarkar. So, he invested a good amount of time and money in researching about him and the organizations and people he was associated with during his revolutionary phase. After reading in-depth about him, he was so invested in the project that he even mortgaged his properties and savings amounting to roughly 20 crore. His belief in the project didn’t go in vain and the movie gained people’s footfalls despite negative publicity about the movie. Many so-called critics opined that the movie won’t last a week in the theatre. However, movie lovers proved them wrong and the result is in front of us – the movie just finished 50 days of run in theatres.
