Brace yourselves, sci-fi and mythology fans! The highly anticipated film Kalki 2898 AD trailer has finally dropped, and it’s nothing short of mind-blowing. Directed by the National Award-winning Nag Ashwin, the film promises a visually stunning epic set a thousand years in the future.
“Is duniya ka pahla sheher….Is world ka aakhiri Shahar – Kaashi,” These are the opening lines of the much-awaited Kalki 2898 AD trailer. These very lines underline the immense importance of this grand old city of Bharat, and perhaps the world, in this movie. As the trailer progresses, we are introduced to the technologically advanced yet dystopian future, where people are probably dying because of the scarcity of water and other natural resources, and look towards COMPLEX with hope– a miraculous and colossal triangle-shaped building wherein we witness a giant humanoid robot carrying humans in his palm.
In the next scene, we are transported to seemingly a place outside Complex where a common man is chiding Complex and their God “supreme Yaskin” for snatching every essential human resource from them. That’s where we get an idea about the Good vs. evil plot in the movie.
Scale that reminds of Mad Max Fury Road
The scale of the movie looks stunning and justifies its budget of 600 crore. Yes, at places, some action sequences remind us of one of the best action movies of all time – Mad Max Fury Road. Having said that, the set, costumes, BGM, and peculiar vehicles, all raise lots of hope that we can at last witness a movie that can compete with the standards of Hollywood Cinema, that too, on a comparatively low budget.
Kalki 2898 AD trailer: Amitabh Bachchan steals the show
Although the movie is being promoted as a Prabhas-starrer, the one person who steals the show is none other than our Big B – Amitabh Bachchan. Whaaaat expressions! He defies age. He is surely going to grab all the attention in the movie. I won’t be surprised if Mr Bachchan gets all the praises for his fantastic performance. Coming to other prominent actors, especially Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, both the actors have meaty roles, as is apparent from the trailer. However, I am worried about the expressions and dialogue delivery of Prabhas. It looks as if Prabhas is trying to be funny but is falling short of reaching anyway closer to funny.
Kalki 2898 AD trailer: Prabhas mediocre, Kamal Hassan nails
Coming to his action scenes, they look stylish and appealing. Given the build of Prabhas, action comes naturally to him and we can hope to see a lot of high-octane action sequences in the movie. Apart from Prabhas, Deepika Padukone has a vital role to play in the movie – probably the mother of God Kalki. She will be protected by Ashwatthama, played by Amitabh Bachchan.
Moreover, the one actor who leaves an indelible mark on us despite making an appearance of only a few seconds – Kamal Haasan. What a menacing look he has got! What a brilliant transformation! Mindblowing! He appears at the end of the trailer and simply owns the trailer. He plays the villain in the movie – probably Kali, the dark lord.
We can’t wait to witness the visual spectacle created by national award-winning visionary Director Nag Ashwin. Fingers crossed for 27th June.
